Today on WBSS
RBS M&A Case Study

“RBS Comes to Warwick with a Bang!”

It’s now time to look to the future. For ambitious and forward-thinking graduates this exciting period of change presents an opportunity to influence from day one and shape the future of RBS.

On Thursday 29th October, the WBSS hosted an RBS Case Study on Mergers and Acquisitions where over 12o members applied, CVs were screened and only a selected few were accepted to take part in this exciting event.

RBS began by giving the participants an insight to what it is like working in the Corporate Finance Division of RBS and then proceeded to introduce a case on SABMiller’s bid to buy out Harbin Brewery (An Asian beer firm). The participants were put into groups to form small RBS M&A Teams whose jobs were to pitch the deal to the board of directors of SABMiller.

Presentations were very competitive and participants were drilled with challenging questions where they were forced to combine their university knowledge with intuition and general business instinct in providing thoughtful answers to assure Harbin’s board of directors. Team work, efficiency and analytical skills took all these teams through their presentations successfully.

RBS reps were very pleased with this event and promise to host more where others who were not present would get the opportunity to experience this exciting challenge.

To all of you who were there: Congratulations, you have made us proud!

I was fortunate enough to have been selected as a candidate to attend this event. It was extremely insightful and allowed me the opportunity to interact with other students with similar interests and ask questions to the RBS representatives who gave us a feel for the practical side of Corporate Finance in the city. Well done WBSS for hosting yet another extremely successful event which I enjoyed thoroughly!

I found this event very insightful and I completely agree with Colin. Although I am studying Law, I am now considering a career in finance. Hope to attend other RBS presentations soon!
